I am an American currently living in Saint Cézaire sur Siagne, a charming hilltop village located in the foothills of the French Riviera. It is a lovely Medieval village, and the home to several archeological sites.This village, only 50 km from Nice, offers unforgettable panoramic views of the Esterel mountain range, from its position at the top of rocky cliffs, plunging down to the Siagne River. You can easily hike or bike from Saint Cezaire to several neighboring villages by its network of marked trails.
Inhabited since the 9th century, there is evidence of the past populations found throughout the village and its surroundings in the form of archeological sites, including megaliths and camps. The remnants of the town's walls date back to the 14th century. Places to visit include a Roman bridge. Medieval hump-back bridge, 14th century wells,14th century remains of an ancient fortified settlement, mill, underground caves, remains dating back to the Neolithic period, and a sarcophagus from the Gallo-Roman era, in the Romanesque Chapel.
