This April I went to France for my yearly barge inspections and cruised aboard the charming and newly renovated barge Athos. We had our friends join us so we chartered the barge for ten and had a lovely crew of five. We cruised along the Canal du Midi and went on daily excursions with our own private guide and driver. We visited places such as Carcassonne the walled Roman castle, Narbonne, Minerve and charming Chateaux for wine tasting. The chef onboard was extremely talented and we ate way too much but loved every minute of it. There was a nice continental breakfast every morning with great French coffee and then a full lunch with white and red regional wines. Dinner was by candle light and normally four to six courses with more wine of course! I sell barge cruises and love what I do. It was so great to have my friends join me to find out exactly what barging is all about. Highly recommend it for small groups. Another fun barge vacation alternative is self-drive barges, whereby you are the Captain and crew. They are very economical and a lot of fun. No real pampering like the hotel barges, but quite and adventure. Check out my website www.bargeconnection.com
