Kodaikanal is the place that has been earlier established as the sanatorium in the year 1845 by the American Madura Mission which had its own unique distinction from otherhill stations of the south India It is the only hill station in India which has been established by Americans. There are many tourist entertainment are centered in the city like starfish shaped lake that makes the nucleus of the city. The honeymoon travelers takes the long boat ride in the lake. The town of Kodaikanal is the maze of churches, hotels, restaurants and also the home made chocolates.
Things to do and see in Kodaikanal :
To explore Kodaikanal, its recommended to have your own vehicle, if not then a taxi ride or hired bicycle may also be a good option. If the traveler is a nature lover then the traveler must opt for the Coaker's Walk, a strip of paved road on the steep southeastern mountain side. The walk is equipped with observatory that offers the most picturesque views. Just opposite to that is Bryant Park, a botanical garden which was established by British forest officer.
The walkers also passes by Green Valley View Point, which is around 7 kilometers and is the towns most important attraction. Pillar Rocks, which is 400 feet high with the vertical column of three rocks. The most important and popular waterfall Silver Cascade which is located at the distance of 7 kilometers outside the city and it also forms the backwaters of Kodai Lake.
There is also Kurinji Andavar Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Murugan. Kurinji is the Tamil of 'Hilly Region' and Andavar means 'God', therefore it means the 'God of Hills'. The purple blue flowers of Kurinji carpets the slopes of the temple and it also offers the great view of Palani Hills. A walk around the Kodai Lake, which is around 5 kilometers and it also takes 45 minutes to complete the walk. Boats and Shikaras are also available near to the Kodai Lake to make the maximum utilization of the time.

Beri-Jam (23 kilometers):
The place is a beautiful reservoir with the dense forest of acacia and pine. It is the protected area and can be traveled after the scenic trek. There is the combined threat of wildlife which has resulted in the regulated entry.
Palani (65 kilometers):
Palani is the abode to the Lord Murugan, and is reached by 650 steps, from where one can get the majestic view of Idumban and Kodai Hills.
Reaching Kodaikanal:
By Air: Madurai is the closest airbase from Kodaikanal which is around 100 kilometers and takes 3 hours to reach.
By Railways: Nearest railhead is Kodai Road at the distance of 60 kilometers and takes 2 hours to rach Kodaikanal.
By Road: Kodaikanal is the place easily accessible by almost all the south Indian cities of the country.
