Alba in Piedmonte is my favorite autumnal pilgrimage. It has to be the ultimate place for indulging in fine Italian cusine enhanced by the ethereal tarfufo bianco and tasting the great Barolos and Barbarescos of the region.
Tartufi Bianci
I normally go Thanksgiving weekend. The festival is on November 9, but the truffles are actually better when its cooler and there are fewer tourists.
Hillside Vinyards
My favorite place to stay is Hotel Savona in the center of Alba. Alba is a wonderful regional town with a beautiful town center and a couple of nice pedestrian shopping streets.
Pizzeria Chincilla was voted "Best Pizza In Italy" in the 70's. Check out this great family-run operation. The gorgeous paneling of the booths in not burled maple. It' actually olive tree root!
All the 13 villages of Barolo (Monforte, Seralunga, etc.) are within 30 minutes by car and they almost all have beautiful hiltop centers with Churchs or Castles.
A Truffle Hunter and His Quarry
If you've never been to Alba in the fall, you're in for a treat!
