An oasis for Cigar-Lovers in Milano has survived!!!!

Boy am I happy! For the last several years, whenever I thought about Cigair Milano

I went into mourning. But it’s not just about the cigars.

As someone who passed through Milano regularly for a number of years, Cigair Milano was a welcoming haven any time I arrived late or had nothing particular to do but wanted good food, good wine, and a beautiful atmosphere with great patrons and staff. Not to mention, great cigars.

This is a fabulous club in The Ticinese district close to the colonne di San Lorenzo. When I patronized it you did not need to be a member to get in. Now I’m not so sure…..The website says it’s a member’s club but I suspect they still accomodate walk-ins.

I just dropped them an email for clarification. In any case, this place had it all: A great bar/lounge with overstuffed leather furniture, a dance floor, a great dining room and restaurant. Scattered throughout the club were large (think refrigerator-sized) humidors and in the back a huge walk-in humidore.

The selection of cigars is amazing. Including the founder’s own brand, called ONEOFF (One New Experience Of Freshness and Flavor). The wine list and menu are also excellent).

Speaking of the founder, my friend Miri (the host) told me the he made his money originally as President of Lauda Airways (remember the formula-one driver Nikki Lauda who started an Airline?) and in other ventures. Scattered throughout the restaurant are pictures of him with famous cigar personalities including Fidel Castro. His passion for cigars takes him around the world in search of the best.

This is a truly great place to spend an evening if you’re in town alone but want to socialize. Great for group as well, I assume. I am truly delighted to find that it is still in operation! One final bonus: The restaurant now features a Michelin star-ranked chef!

The confusion? I had been told just before Italy passed the indoor smoking ban that the Founder would be closing it due to the high cost of compliance with the new air quality standards.

Fortunately, I was so nostalgic for the place, I checked the web and to my joy it’s still going strong!!!
