Pallanza on Lago Maggiore is one of my favorite places to stay on the lakes. You can get there from Malpensa airport(Milan) in about an hour. A really beautiful little town. Old world elegance.
As you drive down the promenade into town, there is a stretch of at least a half mile of box-trimmed, perfectly symmetrical magnolia trees. This is the kind on landscaping that takes decades.
There is a wonderful little pedestrian shopping street. By using the ferry service you can visit about 20 little towns including two in Switzerland!
There are lovely little restaurants where the table is your's all night if you want it. At the club 'Il Porto' you can dance and still get a good meal 'al fresco; until about 2:00 a.m.
There’s a teriffic running/bike path high over the water on the way to Intra. A larger town, Stresa, with many impressive waterfront hotels and lots of shopping is across the lake 20 minutes by ferry. You can even rent a sailboat here!
So whether you want to peoplewatch, poke around the ancient botanical garden or
Tour the lake by ferry and a great place for beauty and relaxation.
