A genuine Catalonian soul is that of a brilliant innovator, which is clearly visible on every street corner in Barcelona. The extraordinary works of Antoni Gaudi reach out to various traditions and blend all that may have seemed unbendable before. The same is true for the specialties of Catalonian cuisine. Dive into the multitude of Barcelona’s restaurants to experience some of the richest flavors to be found anywhere on Earth.

Escalivada

The Spanish verb escalivar means 'to cook in hot ashes.' Escalivada is a traditional Catalonian mix of various grilled vegetables, such as eggplant, tomato, pepper and sweet onion. All the vegetables are first grilled, then peeled, sliced and seasoned with various herbs, olive oil and possibly garlic.

Crema Catalana

Catalonian cream is one of the most common desserts in the region. It consists of a base made of custard and caramel and a crunchy topping made of caramelised sugar. It's also sometimes referred to as the Cream of St. Joseph (Crema de Sant Josep), because it's a traditional treat prepared on St. Joseph's Day, which is March 19th. Crema Catalana is one of many desserts from which connoisseurs derive France's crème brûlée.

A Specialty are detailed for a taste of what Barcelona has to offer. Barcelona contribute its status as one of the world's major global cities a Barcelona breaks will be memorable for you and your family. However, the already busy social calendar of the city is continually being added to.

Catalonian Wine

The province of Catalonia boasts eleven official wine-growing regions, with the most prestigious being Penedès, Priorat and Conca de Barberà. A predominantly rocky area, it had already become home to many excellent vineyards back in ancient times. Its mild climate is extremely beneficial for the production of high-quality wine, and archaeological evidence shows that Phoenicians grew Chardonnay vines there as early as the 6th Century BC.

Barcelona Food Specialties

The classic combination of ‘mar i muntanya’ – sea and mountain – is what has combined to give Catalan food, especially around Barcelona, its own unique features.

Barcelona is close by some wonderful unspoiled countryside, enabling a constant supply of fresh vegetables and fruit to always be at hand. In tandem with the riches available in the nearby Mediterranean and the animals grazing on the slopes of the mountains, this gives an abundance of culinary opportunities.

Libraries and archives

The National Library of Catalonia is the central library in the city, but there's a large network of public services and cultural centers scattered around the city which is owned by the Diputació de Barcelona, as well as many private libraries and libraries belonging to institutions such as universities.

Barcelona hotel offers Japanese specialties

La Dolce Vita, the spectacular terrace located on the tenth floor of the five stars Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona is inviting guests to a virtual journey to Japan this summer, an exciting new dining experience that mixes traditional recipies from Japanese cuisine with specialties from Peru. In the Japanese bar of La Dolce Vita, a sushi expert will make niguiris, maki and sashimi available for guests staying at the hotel every night and to anybody who wants to try something new and different in Barcelona.
