If you are looking for a Greek destination which will give you the solitude of isolated beaches plus a little bit of excitement in the evenings. Try Neos Marmaras in Sithonia. I did this past August and was pleasantly surprised by what I found.
This town situated over several hills overlooking the Toroneas Gulf is a good place to base yourself if you are going to Halkidiki. With a very cosmopolitan feel, Neos Marmaras lines the coast with some fantastic beaches right in the centre of town. Everything is offered here from the many restaurants and taverns that line the beach and the harbour to the active night life. It seems that as the sun goes down, the people come out. The streets become filled with tourists and locals alike who are looking to go out on the town to enjoy themselves. The bars and night clubs come alive as people sit by the waters edge with a cocktail in hand. The romantic flicker of a candle accompanied with the gentle lapping of the waves, giving the perfect setting to this town. By the harbour in the company of boats, enjoy a fresh seafood dinner and why not a glass of the local Porto Carras wine. Just seeing this place made me feel that I had landed in a quaint village somewhere on the Amalfi coast but for a fraction of the price. The stores also come alive at night with things you would never expect to buy in such a place, like leather goods, and furs, and the prices are quite reasonable. For more info look at this site... Sithonia Greece Travel Guide
As for accommodation, Neos Marmaras offers something for everybody. Just up the road is the world class Porto Carras 5 star hotel with one of the few Greek 18 hole golf courses. Belonging to is it's own marina and 7 kilometres of prime beach property. But if this is too much for your budget, then try from the abundance of apartments and studios that exist in town. Sithonia can actually be a budget holiday unlike the islands of Greece. Check out this site for Neos Marmaras accomodation ....
Neos Marmaras is the perfect blend to a Greek vacation. We were impressed and keep going back!
